Last night saw the event of Intraspect VIII, which is an annual concert put on by the University of Surrey’s Creative Music Technology course. As part of the group Tsiren, I performed alongside Alex Tunstall, Dongkyung Yu, and Matthew Veris-Reynolds, with a set up based on no-input mixing principles, using a mixer and a variety of (cheap) guitar pedals to manipulate intentional feedback loops. My own set up featured autoharp on the table top, amplified by multiple contact mics, creating a variety of textural sounds alongside and integrating into the feedback lo0p. Here’s a slightly older version of this setting; I’ve since gained a different mixer, swapped out the distortion pedal for a reverb pedal, which helps make an atmospheric drone-y sound I really like, and gotten rid of the mp3 player, instead finding ways to amplify the autoharp more successfully.

Here’s some photos from the event, credit to the photographer Richard Symonds
