Mechanical Landscape (2021)
Some of my earliest (and rather unpolished) electronic work. The EP was presented with a short piece of writing accompanying each track.
1. clear (?) forecast: sky is shiny open black like plasma. Pictures of a new world, silver desserts, silver suns, silver frozen lava. Blue trees. Temperatures that you couldn’t notice. No people (suppose). A cavern brimming with open land -or/and chemical death. Elaborate technology lying on the floor, as yet unassmbled. In the nighttime sky, the forecast is clear?
2. Jupiter storm: A mess of paint, or puddle of milk. Closer; it would burn you with acid and boil you alive – or rather enevelop you into the swirling mass of an ecosystem: a new life. I would wonder if I could graze the ‘surface’ the soft edge that becomes jagged the harder you look and zigzags across the limits of sight; it won’t work. It’s a bubbling city in the midst of the black void etc. et.c e.tc. A city we should never build and a civilisation we never find. It’s time to go(/?/)leave
3. Avalione: In the middle of a basin of metallic crumbling rock (each ‘crumb’ bigger than me), it feels like a dessert with walls, is the base of the volcanoe. It takes days to walk to, in the sub 0 night where dawn never really breaks, with the sound of a breeze that comes from nowhere (artifical?) in the tapered reaching leaves that almost look like hands and the low uncomfortable buzz of a school of life-forms somewhere near: in the air, below the ground, between our dimensions. Think about the blue trees … Gradually the sky changes colour to a rancid burnt yellow polluted heavy with smoke. We can’t see the top but now we can feel the heat and hear the rush. Erupts and glues me to the floor. Closes my eyes
with white-hot fire and lets me bathe in a sensation I can’t feel. These systems are old and go beyond the sense; they might not make sense. They might just be cruel. Accept:
4. Sky black like plasma: inverted. A new negetive space; i don’t understand. I’ve been washed over, turned inside out to discover what I came here for, but the new life here is a form of violence. Trapped backwards, hung upside-down and pulled apart from within. Ground white like mucus or the inside of a dandelion stem. To think we’d find endless space when I cannot live inside of a dandelion.
5. Alien Vegetation: hostile and rambling. Rivers of cold air and saltwater fish the size of ground sand, or the depth of trenches maybe blown up like gross balloons, clowns that see everything or razorsharp gods. (if you went foraging in alien vegetation)The menu: brittle rocks to crush your teeth with anti-gravity as a spice. Mushrooms that tower you and probably taste like stodgy or mouldy bread or fleshy stringy meat. Thick ‘water’ that you could roll around in your mouth until it becomes solid. Find an alien that you employ as your waiter for a unique and very profitable start-up through your own inguenuity, that is adopted by the whole planet …………Really you’ll eaten alive by a force that looks you in the eye with its own approximations and snarls or laughs, you can’t make parralells, whilst it absorbs you like a grain of salt. You are an alien.
Singles
Koa (2023)
Ambient piece experimenting with using time-warp on a long generative chordal progression
The Whiskerfish’s Orchestra (2021)
“the fake woodwind sounds of the whiskerfish”. A piece that creates a fantasy orchestra of imaginary instruments. The piece was scored using new notation methods for these imaginary instruments.
